About ToolPick

ToolPick exists to help you make better software decisions. We test hundreds of tools every year and publish honest, detailed reviews — including our criticism.

Our Mission

There are thousands of software tools competing for your attention and money. Most review sites are thinly-veiled advertisements. We built ToolPick to be different: a place where real people test real products and share genuine findings — good and bad.

We are independent. We have no parent company. Our recommendations are never for sale. If we think a product is mediocre, we say so, even if they have a great affiliate program.

How We Review Products

Every review on ToolPick follows a consistent process:

  1. We sign up and use the product — We create actual accounts (paid or free trial as appropriate) and use the product for the task it's designed for. We don't write reviews from a product's marketing page.
  2. We test against specific criteria — For each category, we test against a standard checklist: ease of setup, core features, performance, mobile experience, customer support, and value for money.
  3. We document pros and cons honestly — We look for what the product does well and where it falls short. We're particularly attentive to things vendors don't advertise: pricing gotchas, missing features, support quality.
  4. We compare against alternatives — No product exists in a vacuum. We contextualize our findings against the competitive landscape.
  5. We update reviews regularly — Software changes. We revisit and update reviews when products release significant updates or change their pricing.

Our Editorial Standards

Independence

Our editorial decisions are made independently of our business relationships. Products cannot pay to improve their ratings, influence their placement in roundups, or request changes to review content. We have turned down advertising arrangements with companies whose products we've given poor reviews.

Affiliate Commissions

We earn affiliate commissions when readers click through our links and make purchases. This allows us to fund our research and keep the site free. However, this creates a potential conflict of interest that we take seriously.

Our safeguards:

  • Ratings are set before we consider affiliate economics
  • We recommend products we don't have affiliate relationships with when they're better
  • We display the affiliate disclosure prominently on every page
  • We do not adjust ratings based on affiliate commission rates

See our full affiliate disclosure for more details.

Corrections

We make mistakes. When we do, we correct them promptly and note the correction in the article. If you believe we've made an error, contact us and we'll investigate.
